WANDERLUST IN SCREENDANCE
Bekkur/Baenk 1,2,3... (2010)

A multilocational installation piece in Denmark and Iceland including screendances on three different platforms:
Bekkur/Baenk 1: two 90 minute long installation pieces
Bekkur/Baenk 2: four short online videos
Bekkur/Baenk 3: two short telephone clips
The site specific dance film installation Bekkur/Baenk 1,2,3... created by the German/Icelandic artist collective SALTS, was filmed in Iceland and Denmark, installed simultaneously in both countries and accessible to the online audience via various media platforms. It consisted of three elements. Bekkur/Baenk 1 was presented in Reykjavik and Copenhagen as a public space installation in cafes via several 90 minute long films, Bekkur/Baenk 2 as 1-2 minute long online videos, and Bekkur/Bænk 3 as 20 second long mobile phone clips. The different videos were therefore screened simultaneously in multi-locations and challenged the usual format of screendances with regard to time, dynamic and aesthetic. Audiences were random passers-by in public spaces who discovered videos in various real locations and digital platforms.

The two 90 minute long films were installed in a site specific way: In Copenhagen the set up was on two big TV screens in Café Salonen, with old framing. At Tiu Dropar in Reykjavik four smaller screens were used to merge among the other pictures on the wall.
The 90 minute long looping installations showed one male Danish dancer at locations in Denmark, and the other one female dancers at locations in Iceland. The movements focused on sitting, standing, laying in numerous locations, filmed in 3-4 minute long shots. These long shots with little movement, apart from the wind, the clouds, the sun, challenged the time and space perception in screendance, as the films on first sight gave the impression of a still image, and only longer observation prevails the moving elements.

The four short clips could be viewed online providing a visual clip of the thoughts of the two dancers from the installation; here they meet in two clips, while never having been at the same location they are edited together into the digital frame. (strönd/beach, rými /space). The other two clips give the impression of the day dreams at skógur/forest, höfn/harbour

Bekkur/Baenk 3
Bekkur/Baenk 3 were short 30 second long trailers, that could be viewed on mobile phones. At the time technology had only just made it possible to view videos on phones, and as such this was a rather new way of looking at videos on mobile device.
